Lancaster Wetlands
Lancaster Wetlands and its surrounding areas have a rich history, once dedicated to unsustainable cattle ranching, it stands now as a testament to the power of restoration and conservation efforts.
Since 1996, we've been working and learning how to restore and protect the biodiversity of Lancaster Wetlands.
Through reforestation initiatives and land conservation projects, we've now witnessed the emergence of regeneration zones, primary and secondary forests, within this unique ecosystem.
However, our efforts have not been without challenges. The construction of the Reventazón Hydroelectric Plant, initiated in 2010 and inaugurated in September 2016, brought about a series of ecosystem disturbances, requiring urgent restoration and ecological recovery measures in the region.

Despite these challenges, we remain steadfast in our commitment to conservation and restoration.
With the Territorio Jade project, Lancaster Wetlands is transitioning away from commercial logging towards a focus on four core pillars of action:
Community Ecotourism
Ecological Restoration
Ecological Research
Popular Education (Ecological and Forestry)
